                     Office of Leadership Investment
                         Learn  Experience  Grow

Mayor Nutter created the Office of Leadership Investment, in the Managing
Director's Office, to provide central coordination and management for the
internship and fellowship opportunities available within City of
Philadelphia government.  The Office of Leadership Investment will develop
a continuum of leadership and development opportunities within municipal
government and provide these opportunities to young people in high school
through post-graduate school as well as current City employees.  The Office
of Leadership Investment will be responsible for the implementation and
management of internship and fellowship programs and other leadership-based
projects throughout City government.

Starting in June 2008, the Office of Leadership Investment will launch
Experience! Philadelphia with two internship and fellowship programs:
"Summer in the City" and the "Destination Fellowship."  Each program has
two components, detailed below:

                Summer in the City: High School Internship Program



  100 interns throughout City departments and offices, including the
     Mayor's Office
  A six-week paid summer internship from July to August  for current
     Philadelphia high school students, in partnership with the
     Philadelphia Youth Network's WorkReady program
  Students must be 16 years of age and Philadelphia residents
  Wages range from $7.15 an hour to $10 an hour, depending on job function
     and experience/age of youth
  20 hour a week commitment with 16 hours spent in internship placement
     and 4 hours a week spent in skill development training

                  Summer in the City: Mayor's Internship Program



  20 to 30 interns throughout City departments and offices, including the
     Mayor's Office
  An eight-week unpaid summer internship program from June to August for
     current college students
  20 hours a week, with up to 4 hours a week spent in leadership
     development training  and other special events
  Applicants must be sophomores to seniors in college
  Applications are due by April 11, 2008.  Interested applicants can

                    Destination Fellowship: Post-Undergraduate



  5 fellows throughout City departments
  A paid nine-month employment opportunity from September to May for
     recent college graduates
  Fellows receive $2500 taxable monthly stipend
  37.5 hours a week, with portion of time spent in leadership development
     and workplace training, gaining exposure to other City departments
     and city-related agencies through a speaker series and site visits,
     and other special events
  Applicants must have received a bachelor's degree within two years of
     applying for the fellowship.
  Applications are due May 16, 2008 and can be obtained at
     www.phila.gov/destinationfellowship

                       Destination Fellowship: Post-Graduate



  5 fellows throughout City departments
  A paid twelve-month employment opportunity from July to June for recent
     graduate school graduates
  Fellows receive $40,000 annual salary plus benefits
  37.5 hours a week, with portion of time spent in gaining exposure to
     other City departments and city-related agencies through a speaker
     series and site visits, and other special events.
  Applicants must have received a graduate degree within two years of
     applying for the fellowship.
  The deadline for the 2008-2009 post-graduate Destination Fellowship has

                     Emerging Leaders: Current City Employees



  Leadership development opportunity for emerging managers currently
     employed by the City of Philadelphia
  Network currently includes 50 Emerging Leaders throughout City
     departments and offices
  Participate in monthly speaker series with high-level City officials,
     leadership development, networking events, and peer-to-peer learning
     opportunities
